Reginald Lyvonne “Von” Stringer was born January 28, 1953 in Mobile, Alabama to Ola Mae Frye Stringer and Arthur Garfield Stringer, Jr. The Stringers moved to Middletown, Ohio, then to Dayton, Ohio in the 1950’s. It was there that the family welcomed Von’s younger siblings, Arthur “Vernon” and Jackie. Von completed his public school education in Ellerbe, NC and in Dayton, Ohio. He attended Richmond County (NC) Community College and Sinclair Community College.
Lyvonne enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975. He trained and served in the Electric Systems Support Command Unit. He earned an honorable discharge.
After many years of crossing America, Von returned to North Carolina. His first stop was Durham. He then moved to Greensboro where he lived until his death on Friday, April 12, 2024.
Throughout his travels, Lyvonne developed many friendships as he encountered others who shared his love of music, particularly jazz, politics, fishing, and the Carolina Panthers. Those relationships were a constant source of joy and camaraderie. Their role in his life was second only to the role of his family, who he loved dearly. He particularly loved his mother and sister, and he saw to their wellbeing for twenty years.
Von was a master of painting, handiwork, and craftsmanship. These skills kept him in demand, and he was seldom able to say ”no” to the siblings and cousins who called on him for help.
Those who will truly miss him, but keep his memory in their hearts, include, but are not limited to: his beloved mother, Ola Stringer of the home; his brother, Dr. Vernon Stringer (Dr. Vanessa Haygood), sister, Jacqueline Denise Stringer, all of Greensboro; nephew, Daniel Phillip Stringer of Berlin, Germany; niece, Jasmine Olivia Stringer Guerrero (Joel), and great niece, Luna Pearl Guerrero, all of Durham, NC. There are too many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to list that love him, and will miss him dearly.
A memorial service celebrating Reginald’s life will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Lambeth Chapel. The family will greet friends from 1:00pm to 2:00PM Saturday prior to the service in the chapel. Repast will immediately follow the service at the funeral home.
